Asian mkts opens higher despite a recent rally as profit-taking

Asian markets opened the Wednesday session higher despite a recent rally as profit-taking and investor caution overshadow recent optimism about a global economic recovery. Japanese markets are shut today on account of golden week and will re-open tomorrow.

China’s Shanghai Composite was up 0.12% or 3.081 points at 2,570.418. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 0.27% or 43.91 points at 16,473.99. Singapore’s Straits Times was down 1.09% or 22.53 points at 2,051.82. South Korea’s Seoul Composite declined 0.58% or 8.14 points at 1,389.78. While Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted rose 1.93% or 123.31 points at 6,503.25.
